He Puna Taimoana hot pools are located at 195 Marine Parade, right by the New Brighton Pier. It’s around 15 minutes drive from the city centre, or half an hour by bus.
Entry is strictly based on timed sessions, so it’s recommended that you book in advance, to make the most of your time, and not be disappointed, as sessions often book out.

The hot pools are open year round. There’s no perfect time to visit – it depends what you’re looking for! Hotpools make for a great winter activity, and coming at sunrise really is a special experience!
He Puna Taimoana is only a 15 minute drive from the city center, or half an hour by bus. The best bus route is the Rolleston/New Brighton, with a bus stop right across the road from the pools.
There’s a free public carpark just north of the pools, and usually plenty of on-street parking available.
Pricing starts at $23 for adults. (at the time this is written). Pricing is tiered by on-peak or off-peak sessions, and for visitors or residents.

Technically no, you don’t need to book a session, you can turn up and see if they have availability, but it’s strongly recommended.
Bookings are for specific time slots and last for one hour and 45 minutes, and often book out, especially evening sessions, the Sunrise Soak and on-peak times,
Yes! It’s a great family activity, with kids of any age! Keep in mind that the warmer pools are not play pools, and other people are there to relax.
Childrens tickets are for four years old up to 16 years old (17 and 18 year olds can get the child ticket if they have proof that they’re still at high school). Children aged three and younger can get a free infant ticket.
Children under 14 years old need to be supervised.
No, the water used isn’t sea water, however it is saltwater, not chlorinated, and is safe to put your head under.

No. Make sure to bring your own swim wear and towel. There is a limited range of swimwear and towels available for purchase though.
He Puna Taimoana means “coastal pools” or “seaside pools”. The name was gifted to the pools by Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tūāhuriri.
